WHERE

Rooms and spaces whose function will not change once they are assigned. They have the most requirements.

No Changes

FONTS

Simple serif fonts are currently allowed. Such as Helvetica Medium, Helvetica regular, Avante Garde Demi Condensed, Times Roman, Futura Bold, Futura Regular, Goudy Bold, Optima Regular and Optima Semi Bold.

Limit the fonts on signage to Sans Serif Styles only. Helvetica Regular, Futura Regular or Optima.

SIZE

All Caps Only. Raised characters 1/32". Minimum height 5/8" and max of 2". Characters must contrast with background either light on dark or dark on light.

Upper and lower case as long as the same message is carried elsewhere on the sign in tactile form. No change for Raised characters, Height and Contrast. Spacing, no less than 1/8" and no more than 3/8" space between individual characters, currently there are no restrictions.

BRAILLE

No restrictions

Must be place below corresponding text. Domed Braille dots only. Must be separated 3/8' minimum from any other tactile elements.

PICTOGRAMS

Can be any size within a minimum field of 6" in height. Can be raised 1/32" , but are not required to be raised.

MOUNTING

On the wall, 60" to center on the strike side of the door. Placement of ADA sign can go on either side wall of double doors.

Can be mounted on the push side of doors with "closers" and without "hold open" devices. Characters can be located 48" to 60" inches from the floor with the baseline of the characters - as opposed to the center line. Wheelchair friendly and text on large signs easily in reach.The right hand side wall of double doors will become the official mounting sport for ADA signs.

CEILING OR PROJECTED MOUNTED SIGNS

3" Minimum Height of letters

Projection Mounted - 2' min letter height if between 70" and 120" above floor w/ viewing distance of 15 feet or less. Increase letter size 1/8" for each foot if viewing distance is greater than 15 feet. Ceiling mounted - more than 120" above the floor and min. viewing distance is 21 feet or less, min. height is 3". Letter height is increased by 1/8" for each foot if the viewing distance is greater than 21 feet.
