Jicarilla Apache Medical Facility

The sign package at the newly built Jicarilla Apache Medical Facility in Dulce, New Mexico, is a fantastic balance of considerate design and functionality custom tailored to the end user. In other words, it’s exactly the kind of signs people expect from Century Sign Builders.

At first glance, the main motif of the signs looks like a basket. In fact it is a basket. However, Century Sign Builders worked extensively with the end user of the building to create a design that specifically used a Jicarilla Apache medicine basket. This is a great example that signs can not only look good, but can mean something too. Other design elements include the use of sand-blasted faux stone on the moment and exterior wayfinding signs.

The decision to use a modular curved sign system (manufactured by Divirsi-Line Sign System) was based on the fact that we needed a sign system that looked great, had multiple applications, and, most importantly, could be updated by the end user. Dulce, New Mexico is at least and hour and half from any sign shop, so they had to have a system that could be maintained from a distance. Most of the common room signs can be printed and updated by the staff at the hospital. To update the larger signs (such as the directories) they simply order a large format digital print, which we mail, and the staff at the hospital can update the sign in minutes. This is wonderful long term solution for any building, and especially those in remote areas.
